The Countdown To Batman… Begins

What I’m doing: Starting from now, I’ll have batman features from now until my review of the movie itself which I’ll be posting after it’s national release. Not everyone is important enough to be able to get to an advance screening… Of course, I’ll have the odd non-Batman related post in between some to cater to my fans who love posts about the Pope and how great I am.

Why I’m doing this: For a film based on a guy dressed as a bat to gross $158.3 million must mean it’s good. It takes the record for biggest opening weekend away from Spiderman 3 which, as top veterinarians agree, sucked donkey ass. I mean, it was based on a guy dressed in primary coloured tights. Apparently, most (64%) of people would want to see the film again. The movie has also been voted the best movie of all time but just look at it’s competition: The Godfather? Pffft. That film was boring. It lacked that certain element: Batman.

How I’m doing this: Here are the posts I’m posting in the coming days just in case you need something to get you through the final countdown:

  • The Batman Movies
  • The Batman Comics
  • Batman On YouTube
  • When Batman Goes Wrong
  • A Short History On Batman
  • A Short History On The Joker
  • All this and much, much more! (Well, random crap I find)

You may notice that I’ve added a shiny button on the site’s sidebar for you to easily access all the Batman related posts on Monscooch. Before you ask, I don’t know why I chose the above image to start this regular feature.

After the break are some incredible concept drawings by legendary comic book artist Bill Sienkiewicz (most popular of which being Elektra: Assassin) which are perfect visualizations of how the new film’s take on an iconic villain turns out. Continue reading ‘The Countdown To Batman… Begins’

Because It’s Awesome

With all the Muppet madness going on, here’s a kick ass video to M.O.P’s Ante Up starring Bert and Ernie. I don’t know what else to add to this post so I’ll just give you a typical routine of theirs:

Bert: “Hey, you’ve got a banana in your ear!”
Ernie: “What?”
Bert: “I said, YOU’VE GOT A BANANA IN YOUR EAR!”
Ernie: “What? I can’t hear you; I’ve got a banana in my ear!”
Bert: “Hey, you’ve got a banana in your ear!”
Ernie: “I know, I’m keeping the alligator away.”
Bert: “But there aren’t any alligators on Sesame Street!”
Ernie: “I know, it’s working!”

Watchmen Trailer! Go Watch!

The first trailer to Zach Snyder’s (director of 300) adaptation of Alan Moore’s Watchmen was released online last night. You can watch a good quality video on FirstShowing.net or you can find it in YouTube form after the break. It’s a ridiculously good trailer. It’s incredibly faithful to the best graphic novels ever made. That’s not just my opinion- it’s fact.

You may notice the music comes courtesy of the Smashing Pumpkins with “The End Is The Beginning Is The End“. You may rembember (or purposefully forgot) that the same song was featured in another landmark comic book movie: Batman & Robin.

Via IrishURLs.com comes this cool 1987 documentary on the crazy visionary comic book series writer Alan Moore called Monsters Maniacs and Moore: Part One/ Part Two/ Part Three/ Part Four.

Watch the movie trailer after the break. The movie is released globally on March 6th 2009. Continue reading ‘Watchmen Trailer! Go Watch!’

Senator Palpatine Speaks Out About Pope Culture

[Via: Yahoo News] In an attack on popular culture and consumerism in an disapproves address to thousands of young Australian Catholics Pope Benedict XVI blasted the Internet, TV and video games for promoting sex and violence as entertainment.

“I ask myself, could anyone standing face to face with people who actually do suffer violence and sexual exploitation explain that these tragedies, portrayed in virtual form, are considered merely entertainment?” he said.

The funky-haired pontiff is visiting Sydney for World Youth Day, a five-day meeting of young Catholics from around the world. No doubt telling stories about how the Earth is 10,000 years old. Regardless of the existence of these so called “Dinosaurs” that these so-called “Scientists” made up.

“While the fact the pope is railing against modern society’s ills, the World Youth Day organisers have deployed many pop culture tools to promote the event as a hip experience for young worshippers.

They send out a daily text message from Pope Benedict XVI, or BXVI as he is known to mobile phone users, such as: The Holy Spirit gave the Apostles and gives u the power boldly 2 proclaim that Christ is risen! - BXVI.”

Other possible messages could possilby turn out to be “TWIMC… Dinosaurs? rolfcopter! >:D  PITMEMBOAM -BXVI”. The idea has great potential. I found out the above abreviations here. in case you don’t know, the Pope used the following terms: To Whom It May Concern (TWIMC), rolfcopter (Rolling On Floor Laughing… copter) and Peace In The Middle East My Brother Of Another Mother (PITMEMEBOAM).

New Music: Hayden Paniterarioshadabadu Can Sing (Apparently)

As well as being the cutest thing since sliced bread, the cheerleader chick from Heroes can sing now. Or so the following video would have you believe. Imagine, if you will, a really funky tune that will get the crowd dancing on top of tables no matter the event (discos, weddings, trials, meetings etc) and think of this as the opposite to that.

For some reason, the video is so new that it still has the time marker thingy on the bottom of the frame with lawyer ninjas are bound to have it down soon. God forbid this would end up being free publicity.

The song itself is rubbish. It’s halfway between something that could pass for deaf people radio and Paris Hilton’s Stars Are Blind. As an expert on all things stuff-related going by the name kathyfosho eloquently puts it:

she stole my boyfriend. therefore i dont like her.
slut. but the song is catchy..

My thoughts exactly. Enjoy the song after the break. Continue reading ‘New Music: Hayden Paniterarioshadabadu Can Sing (Apparently)’

New Music: Radiohead’s Revolutionary Video Shot By Frickin’ Sharks With Frickin’ Laser Beams Attatched To Their Frickin’ Heads*

As the French say, that certain "I don't know what".

*This post title is not entirely accurate. It just gave me an excuse to use the photoshopped image I made to the side.

The fact that [something with a made up name called] the global blogosphere would go nuts over a video a week before it was actually released means that I, too, have to blog about it upon it’s release. Radiohead have just released a new video for its song “House of Cards” from the album “In Rainbows” and it’s very pretty.

No cameras or lights were used. Instead, two technologies were used to capture 3D images: Geometric Informatics and Velodyne LIDAR. Geometric Informatics scanning systems produce structured light to capture 3D images at close proximity, while a Velodyne Lidar system that uses multiple lasers is used to capture large environments such as landscapes. In this video, 64 lasers rotating and shooting in a 360 degree radius 900 times per minute produced all the exterior scenes.

“In English, Doc!” I hear you scream. Well, pretty pictures made from loads of data dots go with music. Feel free to watch the making-of video to learn about how the video was made and the various technologies that were used to capture and render 3D data. The cool thing about the video being made of data rather than images is the fact that the data has been released to be messed around with on Google Code’s Visualizer. Try it out now. You can see what it’s like to see Thom Yorke’s face from the inside. Sure, it’s kinda creepy but you should get used to it. It’s the future. Fans are also invited to mess around with the data to create their own YouTube videos here.

The actual video and some other very similar videos can be seen after the break. By “very similar”, I mean they’re similar in a “cool, colourful and ideal as a desktop screensaver” kind of way. Nu Feechurz

As part of my plan to blog more often, I’ve thought of a whole heap of new ideas and features I can incorporate into this web log of mine. The idea is that it will hopefully give this site some structure again because it’s all over the place lately (that’s when it’s sporadically updated mind you).

  • Countdown To Batman. I’ve started laying out posts to last from today for the next two weeks until the general release of The Dark Knight. I haven’t been so excited about a film in my life. Maybe Episode I had me weak at the knees for a few months but I didn’t know of the dissapointments that were due to follow (bar the awesome 3-man, 4-blade lightsaber fight in the end). In contrast, The Dark Knight is being hailed as a masterpiece regardless of the fact it’s based on a man dressed as a bat.
  • Countdown To Bond: I’ve been watching every single James Bond movie every Sunday since May 25th and hope to finish of the run with Quantum Of Solace. I’m thinking I might as well blog about the movies. Starts as soon as I get through Batman.
  • MMTV (Monscooch Music TV): This weekly feature will show off the best music videos by some of my old favourite guilty pleasures, one band or artist at a time. Some of them being lost classics, some them being just plain embarrasing for my reputation.
  • Monthly Monscooch Mixtape: Following on from my mixtape dedicated to mashups which at least two people were rather fond of, I’ll collect and upload a few themed mixtapes in genres I love.
  • Superheroes Sunday: This is an idea I haven’t fully fleshed out as of yet but going by the high standards of my other writings, you can count on it being completely amazing though.
  • Lego Love: In this revolutionary feature, I’ll post about my love for Lego. It literally took minutes to come up with the title. My fascination with Lego may play a part in the fact I have no girlfriend but I have a feeling that it’s because I’m so damn handsome. And brilliantly modest, too.
  • Monscooch Originals: I’ve got loads of videos planned out. Two of which I’ve actually recorded but am having trouble doing the editing and special effects for. I’m also sketching a lot more and have improved since that Cloverfield post (which went down a storm, I believe). Did I also mention that I’ve a concept for an album worked out. I came up with it when I was really drunk. All I have is the album title, the concept and the design for the cover.
  • I’m going to get into the habit of posting a bonus music video at the end of every post with maybe a fun fact or tangential story related to the post topic. I’ll do my best to post songs you never hear on the radio anymore. Some really old songs from, like, before 1999. Maybe they’re not on the radio because I’ve got awful taste in music but I doubt that that’s true. I’m awesome. It was in the news and everything.
  • There’s one idea that I’m working on which could change the Irish blogosphere. It’s very complicated, exciting and time consuming. I don’t know if I have the time, patience, smarts to figure out the logistics behind it. It’ll have to wait until I have holidays from work but by that time I might get bored with it and move onto another brilliant idea. I’m like Leonardo Da Vinci in that sense. Another similarity with L Da V: We’re both very hairy.
  • Random Top 10 lists: Everyone else is doing it so why can’t I? Hell, I’ve already done a list of ten things just now and I didn’t even plan to.
  • YouTube TV: I’ve found many classic TV shows on YouTube which I might as well gather. Some people seem to love the Peep Show collection I did a few months ago. I just wish they left a comment once in a while seeing as that page alone still gets over 30 views a day.
  • Badvertising: I love advertising gone wrong or pointless viral marketing so this feature will be a new regular. Continue reading ‘Nu Feechurz’

Thunderstorm + Blog - Electricity = Oh, Botheration

Look Ma, I’ve Hit The Bigtime

I’ve just found out from my part-time publicist/ full-time brother that an old movie I made over four years ago for a charity quiz event in NUI Galway was featured in the high quality ad-fest that is Galway First (or “Galway Fir” as the image above suggests, thanks to their seemingly blind graphic designer). Available now for the low, low price of “FREE”, you can find the latest issue in Galway newsagents today.

You can view the latest issue online here. Even though it’s free to pick up a copy in brick and mortar establishments, you have to register to view the newest issue. To save you the hassle of confirming passwords, email addresses and whatnot, type in monscooch(at)gmail(dot)com and the password “Zoolander”.

They randomly chose to feature a recreation of Zoolander made entirely of Lego I made four years ago in NUI Galway (the only tenous reason for it’s mention) which I uploaded to YouTube just over a year ago. If you haven’t seen it, here it is. It’s not something I’m proud of now looking back but people still seem to love it. The piece itself is a whole load of waffle (much like the content of this blog, to be fair) and at least I had more column inches than Karl Spain. Yeah, take that Karly-boy. The observations made by the top journalist were pointed out in the comment section by people with idiotic handles such as keydawg13). The one small yet vital mistake I was slightly peeved about was him failing to give the address to the actual video. Travesty.

It seems my fame is moving backwards. I had a movie shown on ABC News, featured on RTE 2 for some reason, mentioned on the radio a couple of times and now, featured in a free local rag. Naturally, the next step would be a monthly newsletter to my family. Their favourite parts are the funnies. This one I wrote: “If Barbie is so popular, why do you have to buy her friends?”. Ah ha ha ha!!! Wait, that’s not funny at all… Continue reading ‘Look Ma, I’ve Hit The Bigtime’

Geeks Are Cool Now- This Is Our Time

Two YouTube videos in a row? Man, I’m getting good at this blogging malarkey. This is an insanely brilliant video by film making team VanNoble called Star Wars Gym. It’s a long video by YouTube standards clocking in at a full 6 minutes and 3 seconds. You might think that the video is going nowhere but, oh, does it ever pay off.

It’s funny, dramatic, proffesionally made and Lando Calrissian is just awesome. The details and and effects definitely makes this video worthy of the second best Star Wars related video of this year. In case you need to know, number one would be Fist Of Blog’s Star Wars according to a three year old and Patrick Boivin’s Mandalorian Dance. Watch it after the break or in high quality mode here.
